Chesapeake Lighthouse Foundation (CLF) is the largest charter school operator in Maryland and currently serves over 3900 students at seven different campuses. CLF was officially established in 2003 when the nonprofit education management company received its 501-(c)(3) status.
Mr. Spear Lancaster, a founding Board member and Board President Emeritus, founded CLF on the philosophy by focusing on STEM education for Maryland students, we are “maximizing the potential of all students”. Today the CLF Board and Mr. Yilmaz Zayn Ak, CLF Chief Executive Officer, continue to promote this idea.
Chesapeake Lighthouse Foundation currently operates public charter schools in Maryland’s Anne Arundel and Prince George’s counties. The schools collectively serve students in grades K through 12 offering a premier STEM-focused curriculum. Excellence in Education is the CLF standard. Excellence is CLF’s approach to innovative technology-integrated curriculum infused with rigor in the core academic instruction.
